Wine
What the F!#$ is wine?
It appears to be a simple question, however as my knowledge of the art continue to broaden, so does the realisation of my ignorance on the topic. In its simplest form, wine is made from grape juice and through the fermenting process, the natural yeast (saccharomyces cerevisiae) of the grape consumes the natural sugars in the fruit and with the magic of science, alcohol is created.
However, just like everything in life, the more you know, the less you know. With over 10,000 grape varieties, and the vast spectrum of tasting profiles created from each individual wine maker and vintage, the volume of information on the subject can take a lifetime to digest.
So the question lies, what is so special about wine?
My humble opinion is simple, it’s delicious. Unfortunately I’m an idiot, and to go into detail about all the different varieties of wine, and pretend like I know all aspects on wine making and tasting will be foolish. There are many trained sommeliers, wine makers, and alcoholics with a far more sound understanding on the topic.
Throughout this blog I will be exploring with the help of some of Australia’s top sommeliers, all varied aspects about wine making, tasting and pairing, and trying to understand all the amazing aspects of the art.
